10 fun recipes for your football party

Salut! TGIF! It’s time for football! I’m talking Buckeye football, the only football I really want to watch. It’s not really fall until football at The Ohio State University begins. After a long delay, merci Corona 🙄, tomorrow OSU kicks off in the Horseshoe. Time to bring out the party food! And we will need it, to soak up the shots we do each time the Buckeyes score 😬🍻. Without further ado, here are 10 fun recipes for your football party!

chili

For the first game, I think we are due for a good old fashioned chili party. Goop has an awesome recipe, Dublin Chili, that I’ve made before using turkey. I will probably do that one, but it is very tempting to do a Tequila White Chicken Chili. Maybe for the big game against Michigan. I have a recipe I’ve used quite a few times, I just need to dig it out. In the meantime, here is a 5-Ingredient White Chicken Chili from Gimme Some Oven that looks simple and good – just add tequila!

dips

You always need a least one kind of dip at a football party! I’m thinking some Lawson’s Chip Dip with Fritos would be perfect with the chili. If you can’t find it near you, here’s a 3-ingredient copycat lawson’s potato chip dip recipe from unsophisticook. What I haven’t made in a long time is Pimento Cheese. It’s an excellent recipe from GQ, although most of the time I use jarred pimentos. It’s perfect for any spread.

taco bar

Tacos are such a fun food, and you could do a whole diet with them! So a least one of your football parties must have a taco bar. Pick your base of choice, and lay out all your favorite ingredients and party on! Get out the tortilla chips and salsa and guacamole to have on the side, and don’t forget the queso! Or instead of the guacamole, add these Crispy Black Bean Tacos with Avocado-Lime Sauce to your spread. Or these Jalapeño Avocado Cream Cheese Wontons? Just do both, it’s party time!

more fun

I always make meatballs at least once for game time. Usually I’ll make Swedish Meatballs. I would love to try these Vegetarian Mushroom Meatballs. Or maybe make a meatball sandwich? Speaking of sandwiches, subs are definitely right on for a football party. I can’t wait to try this Roasted Vegetable Sub with Creamy French Dressing!

Wings

My husband Mark makes buffalo chicken wings that are the jam. The perfect football party food. Here is his recipe, you’re welcome.

Prep Time15 minutes
Cook Time45 minutes
Total Time1 hour
Course: Appetizer, Main Course
Cuisine: American
Keyword: football party, fun food, spicy
Servings: 2 generous

Ingredients

  • 10 whole chicken wings, organic * buy them whole, cut them in half yourself
  • 8 ounces Frank's RedHot
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1/2 stick butter * (4 tbsp )
  • baking powder
  • cayenne pepper powder
  • salt, pepper
  • ¼ cup pepperoncini juice, optional * the liquid from a jar of pepperoncini
  • celery and blue cheese to serve

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400° F. Place wings on a non-stick foiled baking tray. Sprinkle wings with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper. Dust with baking powder. Alternately, put baking powder, salt, pepper and cayenne in a large bowl with the wings and toss to coat, then place on baking sheet. Bake wings until done, 40-45 minutes.
To a medium saucepan, add RedHot, peanut butter, and 3-4 shakes cayenne pepper powder. If adding pepperoncini juice, add it now with an extra tbsp. of peanut butter. Heat until it just starts to bubble, stirring occasionally, remove from heat.
Place sauce and wings in a large mixing bowl and toss. Place wings on baking tray with clean non-stick foil. Set back in warm oven to allow sauce to set, 8-10 minutes. Serve with blue cheese dressing and celery. Go bucks!

Notes

If you happen to have a peanut allergy, Mark has a great substitute – grape jelly!  Add 4 tablespoons in place of the peanut butter, literally the jam! 😉

So there you go! 10 fun recipes for your football party, or any party, to last you throughout the season. I’ve always wanted to try to make cauliflower “wings”, maybe one weekend I’ll try this recipe for Baked Buffalo Cauliflower Wings, using Mark’s sauce of course. Have a great weekend, à bientôt and GO BUCKS! 🌰🏈
