quoi de neuf – buckwheat, jazz and a perfect sunshine day

Bonjour! We’ve been having a rainy week so far here in Ohio, I’ve been enjoying the cool misty mornings. Today we are having a break from the rain, it’s going to be a beautiful perfect day – sunny with a high of 75. Looks like I need to get out and do some work in the yard, take a walk with Raz and maybe just sit by the garden and read. It’s quoi de neuf – buckwheat, jazz and a perfect sunshine day.

Angelica Mill – The buckwheat stops here. After listening to the Goop podcast and YouTube episode below, it was really interesting to read more about Tartary Buckwheat. I found out that Tartary Buckwheat is one of the most vital nutrient dense products in the agricultural world. Dr. Bland explained in the YouTube video that “The immune system of the plant is connect to the immune system of the human through the resilience factor found in the phytochemicals.”  The high amount of flavonoids found in this particular buckwheat has a profound affect in the defense of the immune system of humans.

Over the weekend I won a copy of Boho Beautiful Transform along with a copy for my sister! You know how much a love Boho. I know this will be a challenging program, but hopefully sister an I will get though it, with a lot of laughing (at ourselves), I’m sure.

Dr. Perricone’s 3-Day (face lift) Diet I think I need this. Going to do 3 days this week and 3 days next week.

listening

Earful TowerAn Introduction to Jazz in Paris. I loved listening to this, especially because Oliver recorded it sitting in the Square René Viviani park next to Shakespeare and Company and you can hear the sounds of Paris in the background.

Goop podcast Getting to the Root Cause with Jeffrey Bland, PhD. He talks about the importance of regenerative agriculture, and what was especially interesting to me, an interesting plant named Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat. I found a Big Bold Health episode with Dr. Bland and Sam Beer on YouTube, Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat: Meet the Next Superfood! which is also a good listen.

Cooking

I cooked all kinds of Clotilde’s recipes over the week from Tasting Paris. The Ratatouille was sooo delicious, next time I will use it in the Ratatouille Tahini Sandwich. The Olive and Goat Cheese Bread was a perfect apéro for our tuna steaks served on the grill (served with a side of the ratatouille) and baby potatoes. Very provencal, very nicoise. The Oven Fries were delicious too, but I think I may have shook them too hard before I baked them ;-p.

Crab Galette with Avocado and Curry

Inspired by Cyril Lignac and his famous galette which can be found on the menu at the beautiful restaurant Le Chardenoux. I can’t wait to visit there the next time I’m in Paris. I love buckwheat galettes. This is a very loose recipe, make it to your taste. I will update amounts and corrections when I make it 🙂 I’m hoping I can source some Tartary Buckwheat flour and that it will work for this galette recipe!

Molly’s Best Tartary Buckwheat Crepes recipe

Combine crab meat, mayo and curry powder. Slice avocado thinly, sprinkle with lemon juice. Make crepes.

On each crepe (galette), spread some of crab meat mixture. Top with slices of avocado. Finish with cilantro and lemon zest. Slice each galette into 4 quarters and serve.
