monday meditation – you reap what you sow

“Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Bonjour and welcome to a monday meditation – you reap what you sow. I seem to keep coming across quotes and devotionals about this subject. I thought it would be a good idea to think over it a little more. The original idea of you reap what you sow comes from Galatians 6:7-9. “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” 2 Corinthians 9:6. Here are some thoughts to sow to reap our destiny.

thought

What you reflect on reflects back. Consequently, all the fruits of the spirit tie into this idea – patience, kindness, self-control. They all come into play when it comes to reaping action from the thoughts you sow. This is the beauty of meditation. You become aware of your thoughts and you can choose to do something about them. Therefore, if we focus on and think about the good, we can respond to the negative with patience, wisdom and compassion, to others, and therefore back to ourselves.

What comes around goes around or as JT would say What Goes Around, Comes Around. This law of cause and effect, is how Karma works. What we put into our mind has a huge effect on our actions and on our lives. Reaping and sowing is a biblical idea. It means to follow the rules of the bible and sow to please the Spirit. Karma is a spiritual term too, however, it comes from the Buddist religion. Oxford languages defines it as destiny or fate, following as effect from cause. How the accumulative actions in this life, or past lives, will determine your future. The word Karma literally means activity, which brings us to…

action

Sowing is an action. To sow is to work for it. Something else that had me meditating over the meaning of reaping what I sow is Gwyneth. GP works hard. Did you see her bday pic? She definitely reaps what she sows. I want to be inspired by her and start working harder. I’ve been slacking, too many excuses. “The reason that I can be 38 and have two kids and wear a bikini is because I work my [expletive] ass off. It’s not an accident. It’s not luck, it’s not fairy dust, it’s not good genes. It’s killing myself for an hour and a half five days a week, but what I get out of it is relative to what I put into it. That’s what I try to do in all areas of my life.” Work hard. Just do it.

destiny

Boho Beautiful says “Your decisions today define your tomorrow.” So, what do you want your destiny to be? What thought can you sow today? What action, habit and character do you want to reap? Take the time this week to really reflect. Reflect on the idea of this monday meditation – you reap what you sow. Take the time to care for yourself, and to enjoy the beautiful fall weather! “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9. A bientôt!
