10 fun fondue recipes you should make now!

When it gets chilly, it’s time to start thinking about fondue. I have two 70’s era fondue sets that I found at thrift stores, they are the perfect size for two. I also have a beautiful burgundy ceramic one. And for a big party I have an electric one. Let’s just say I’m always ready for fondue! Did you know that cheese fondues contain alcohol (white wine and sometimes kirsch) to lower the boiling point and prevent the cheese from curdling? Also tradition says that if your bread cube slips off your fork into the fondue, you must buy the next drink. So if its just the two of you maybe you have to do a shot? Perhaps of kirsch (which is usually an ingredient of fondue)? Actually if the man’s bread slips, he buys the drinks, if the woman’s does, she has to kiss the people she’s sitting next to. Sweet. Here are 10 fun fondue recipes you should make now!

fondue party

I just ordered an Oktoberfest Pretzel Party Pack for the weekend and I want to make a beer cheese fondue to go with it. The last pretzel pack we bought (they are really that good – I’m sure I’ll buy them again, and again) we served with store bought beer cheese. So I’m looking at this Beer Cheese Fondue recipe or this Aged Cheddar Guinness Fondue. With the Beer Cheese recipe you could always use a pumpkin beer too. Tough decision. Here is a Easy Vegan Cheese Fondue that calls for beer for la soeur.

Perfect for a party of two would be this Camembert Fondue-in-a-Box recipe that I have saved forever. Ever since I read about Warm Vacherin in Ina Garten’s Cooking for Jeffrey, I’ve been obsessed. I’ve ordered it for several birthdays, and I think once for New Year’s. I’ve always ordered it from Murray’s Cheese, and I just got an email that it’s back for the season. It’s definitely a luxury, so save it for a special party!

fun fondue

A cider fondue would be perfect for the fall. Of course you would have to serve apples along side, and baby potatoes would be perfect too. This Gruyère and Cider Fondue from  Bon Appétit would be a perfect excuse to buy some Calvados or Applejack Brandy. Cider-Cheese Fondue from BHG.com looks yummy, they’ve got a nice pretzel spread going on too!

You know I LOVE brie, it’s my favorite cheese, so what about a Brie fondue? The Champagne Brie Fondue from Robert Irvine looks more than fun! And here is a traditional Fondue Savoyarde from The Spruce Eats for just a great fondue night, all fondue is fun!

fall fondue

Pain, Vin Fromages has been on my list of things to do in Paris. It is located at 3 Rue Geoffroy l’Angevin, right down the street from the Pompidou. I was just doing a Google streetview and there is a mural on the wall outside of The Fox and the Crow (if you don’t already know, I love foxes)! On the menu they have a Fondue Savoyarde and they also have a Fondue à l’Indienne which is a fondue savoyarde with curry. Btw, off topic, but I wanted to mention, Le Bouledogue restaurant is one street over, it’s been on my list too. Check out the website, what a cute place. Anyway, inspired by the menu at Pain, Vin Fromages, here is my Curry Fall Fondue. I’ll be using the curry I bought at a market on Ile St. Louis 🥰

Curry Fall Fondue

A fondue with spicy fall flavor, inspired by Pain, Vin Fromages.
Prep Time20 minutes
Cook Time20 minutes
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: French
Keyword: fall, fondue
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 clove garlic -sliced in half
  • 1 cup Alsace Gewurztraminer – to keep it authentic -or a dry young white wine
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 4 oz Gruyère  grated
  • 4 oz Comté grated
  • 4 oz Emmenthal grated
  • 2 tsp curry
  • ½ tsp freshly ground cumin
  • salt, pepper

Instructions

  • Rub the inside of a saucepan with the cut sides of the garlic, either leave garlic in saucepan or discard.
Whisk together the wine and cornstarch, add to the saucepan and bring it to a boil.  Reduce the heat to a simmer.
Add cheeses, curry, cumin and pepper.  Cook over medium high heat stirring constantly, until fondue is melted and smooth.  Keep cooking until thickened, about 15minutes. If mixture gets too thick, add some more wine.
Transfer to a fondue pot set over a flame. Serve with baguette or sourdough cubes, I think some roasted carrots, cauliflower and potatoes would be great with it too. Plonger!

And if you want to make a vegan version – how about this? Just add some curry 😋 Of course it can’t be a foodie Friday without talking about pizza! Just check out this Fondue Pizza! Je suis amoureux! It was inspired by khachapuri, a Georgian dish that is basically cheese filled bread. Here’s a recipe for Khachapuri from New York Times Cooking, just fill it with one of the fondues above and voilà! Have a great weekend! À bientôt!
