A festive Friday in the city of light

A festive Friday in the city of light

Salut! Only 3 Friday’s left in 2020, the last one being Christmas! So today I’m dreaming of Paris in the Christmastime. On Wednesday’s quoi de neuf I mentioned how much I would love to have Yann Couvreur’s beautiful Bûche De Noël. What I wouldn’t do just to walk around Paris at Christmastime, it would be magical indeed. Here is my little dream itinerary, a festive Friday in the city of light.

le matin

I think it would be nice to start out with some chocolat chaud for a change instead of un café. Of course Angelina is know the world over for it’s magnificent chocolat chaud, but since we are going to be hanging out near the Marais today, let’s find something there. Carette on Place des Vosges looks perfect. They have every pastry and cake you could want and also crepes and macarons! And it’s just beautiful, inside and out, a great start to our festive Friday.

Next it’s time for some shopping! Perhaps starting with the Notre Dame Christmas Market? This year it is located in the Square René-Viviani, remember, the square with the oldest tree in Paris, where I’ll be taking maman? We will pass the Paris Christmas Market at Hôtel de Ville, but we are saving that for the evening, when we can enjoy the beautiful light display, and hop on the merry-go-round while we’re there!

l’après midi

Time to get out of the cold for awhile. I think a warming wine tasting is in order. Husband and I did a wine tasting at O’Chateau on a previous trip. I would love to return, even just to sit at the bar for a glass. It was fun and informative. And you meet people from all over the world. Afterward stop by the famous G. Detou for baking gifts and E. Dehillerin for kitchen supplies/gifts.

Let’s stop for some soupe l’oignon to keep us going until our late dinner. Nearby Comptoir de la Gastronomie looks fun and very festive and the onion soup looks magnifique! Next we must jet up to the Galeries Lafayette to see the beautiful Christmas tree.

le soir

After a break back at the hotel to rest and refresh it’s time to head back out for a Christmas concert at the beautiful Sainte-Chapelle. On to the lights – Oouuuiiii! After a trip back to Hotel de Ville, we must stroll the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, and maybe a stop at the Place Vendome to see the trees? I think some champagne at the Ritz Bar Vendome is in order, very chic and very festive indeed!

For a festive pizza Friday we will head to Acqua e Farina on the Canal St. Martin. The dough there is made from fresh water that is more than 20,000 years old! The reviews on Trip Advisor are glowing – about how good the pizza is and the atmosphere – sounds perfect! For an antipasti I would have to try the Cavolfiore Arrostito – Cauliflower confit with sage, tzatziki and roasted hazelnuts. For pizza I think the 4 Formaggi with Fior di latte, sweet gorgonzola, taleggio and smoked mozzarella looks très délicieux!

So there you go – my idea of a festive Friday in the city of light! Hope you enjoyed my little daydream Christmastime trip! I’m going to go Google Street View the whole thing right now 🎄 Have a festive weekend! À bientôt!
